We didn’t clean and close the senior cabins. Alex said it wasn’t our responsibility. Instead, Nora helped Miss Boomer in the fire lab and I was with Miss Montgomery organizing the crafts barn.
There’s a specific order to how all the cabinets are kept in the crafts barn. But before that can happen, every cabinet has to be gone through. Missing tools have to get replaced. Items that belong in other cabinets have to be moved. Scraps that won’t be used next year have to go into recycling or trash.
We spent the day going through the cabinets sorting, stowing and making lists of missing items. Some items eventually get found, others, either broken or lost have to be ordered or built. About a third of the cabinets are sorted. It will take the rest of the week to finish the task. There are a lot of cabinets.
Nora came to lunch covered in ash. She was looking for missing buckets. Apparently, some girls figure it’s ok to put their full ash buckets in the ash pit, bucket and all. But Nora seems to like the job. She says she did it last year, and also a few times earlier in the summer when the number of ash buckets got low.
Fortunately for the dining hall, we ate outside. We’re doing all of our meals outside this week because the kitchen staff are closing and winter proofing everything.
Tam’s folks came and took her home today. Dian will be going tomorrow. Nora and I still don’t know when someone is coming for us.
