We packed and had everything out of the cabin before lunch. We swept. It wasn’t dirty, but it seemed like the right thing to do. Then, with all of our stuff stacked in piles under the crafts canopy, we did the closing spell.
It doesn’t amount to much. Everything looks the same. But nothing can get in or out once it’s done.
By four pm, only five campers were left. We had tea in the flower garden. Miss Porter assured us that we would all be gone before supper, but for some of us supper might come late and she didn’t want us to be hungry.
I wasn’t the last camper to leave. Lia and Lara’s folks arrived the same time Mom did. So the three of us shared the distinction of being last.
Mom looked at my pile of stuff and said, good thing Dad didn’t come along. I had to ride in the front seat because the rest of the car was full. Most of it is still in the car and will get emptied tomorrow.
I am sad that summer is over. School starts next week. I am looking forward to that.
