Our last full day at camp. We got our vellum, special ink and quills for doing the cabin closing spell at breakfast. We won’t be doing them until everything is moved out, but Miss Porter wanted to make sure we all remembered what to do. It’s not difficult, and everyone has a copy of the spell for reference. It has to be done correctly, though.
We started to hand out our origami birds. I think we have enough for each of us to give everyone in camp at least one bird. We made way more of them than I’d thought.
Other campers were also handing out little remembrances. We’d sign each one: To (your name) with love from (my name). It took a bit of time, but it will be nice later to help remember who they came from. I got bookmarks, origami fish, pretty feathers, decorated craft sticks, and other things. So even when my box of origami birds would be empty, it will still be full of other things.
Mom is going to wonder about all the things I am bringing home this year. I hope she brings extra boxes.
After supper, at the bonfire, we celebrated the summer, its challenges, the new friends and experiences. We sang our favorite songs. The winningest fire magic team, told the story of our stay in flame and sparkles. It was very dramatic. Afterward, we all stood in a big circle around the dying embers. Blue motes of light rose out of the embers, circled around us, then covered us with a soft glow. As we walked back to our cabins, the glow slowly faded.
